Author | 14 September 2018

With just over a week to go organisers of Newport’s annual food and drink fair – Newport Food Frenzy - have announced a spectacular line-up for this year’s events programme at the event on Saturday 22 September 2018.

Leading the programme will be local award winning Darren Morgan of Morgan’s Country Butchers from Waters Upton who will be preparing meat for renowned chef James Sherwin of Wild Shropshire to add a few foraged ingredients before cooking a fabulous gourmet meal.

Ever popular celebrity chef Chris Burt of the Mytton & Mermaid Hotel returns to takes on the challenge of a Clarkes Law (Newport) team in a ‘Beat the Chef’ competition. Chris also has a solo spot where he will wow the crowd with local food with an Asian slant and warns the crowd to expect fireworks and umami bombs all the way.

Organiser Mike Atherton of Newport’s ‘town team’ said “We are delighted to have such a strong programme of high quality food experts supported by staff from local businesses who are keen to entertain our visitors”.

The programme also includes Michelle Darcy of Shropshire Veggies & Vegans demonstrating alternatives to our traditional diets, Mick Cummings of Waitrose returns to show us how to fillet fish, Jackal Luc (Wok ‘n’ Roll) will be demonstrating the health benefits of ginger in Chinese cookery and Lajina Masala returns to add a little spice to the programme.

Another highlight in the programme is a Cook-off style challenge with staff from Newport’s Fiveways Insurance Group taking on colleagues from Henshalls Insurance Services in what promises to be great fun and just maybe a little messy!

In addition to the events programme there will be a host of street entertainment including the popular Geoff Rodgers with his one man band, juggling Jim Millar, and Shropshire Falconry which proved hugely popular with younger visitors last year.

Mike concluded “It promises to be a fabulous event for adults and children so please come along, bring your friends, and enjoy a great day out”
