Newport Chef Crowned King of Curry

Newport has got something to shout about after one of its resident chefs was crowned the king of curry. Chef Alam Hussain who is head chef at the Taste of Paradise, in rear of 2-4 High Street, Newport, Telford, TF10 7AN, was voted best chef at the annual national Curry Life Awards.

The unsung heroes behind Britain's favourite cuisine were honoured once again at the Curry Life Awards on Sunday, 7 October 2018 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, Central London. The Curry Life annual awards showcase the very best of the best in Curry industry has to offer, rewarding those who strive towards providing a unique experience, with excellent food, service and ambience.

The curry Chefs and restaurateurs from across the country have picked up the coveted award in front of an audience of more than 700 people at a gala event hosted by the Journalist and Broadcaster, Jon Snow.

An impressive 500,000 votes were counted in total - our biggest tally yet - and the winners reflect the diverse range of movers and shakers across the country within Curry Industry.

At this year’s Award Ceremony, KORMA has been crowned king of the curries for diners. The mild dish is Britain’s most popular Indian cuisine. It was named by almost a quarter of restaurants as their biggest seller, with jalfrezi finishing second on 17%, followed by tikka masala Curry Life Awards and Gala Dinner was organised in partnership with the takeaway food ordering app, Just Eat.

It was also supported by: Cobra Beer, Unisoft Solutions, Pepsi and Travel Links Worldwide. Syed Belal Ahmed, who is the Editor of Curry Life Magazine, which organises the Curry Life Awards, added: “We have been championing the British curry cuisine for many years and despite being hit hard by several recessions, it has managed to survive and flourish.

Newport restaurateur, Mr Sujatur Reza, who runs the Taste of Paradise, said: “It’s great honour to be recognised and I would like to thank my team for their hard work and our customers who’ve inspired us to keep improving and experimenting. “Regulars at the restaurant are often used to test out new dishes with their opinion helping fine-tune new creations.” Mr Reza added: “Diners have a real appreciation of Indian cuisine nowadays and aren’t going to settle for second best. I’m just happy that I have contributed towards curry being the British national dish. “People love Indian food and chefs in the UK have a unique take on Indian cuisine. It’s not surprising given the history between the two countries.”
