Author | 12 March 2019

This weekend saw a number of events going on involving Newport runners including another 100th parkrun milestone and a 20 mile race.

First up was Nick Watts who notched up his 100th Parkrun on Saturday 9th at the Wammy Parkrun at Newcastle-Under-Lyme in Staffordshire. When Nick took part in his first ever parkrun in February 2016 his finish time was 30:20. He set a new PB there at the end of last year with a fantastic finish time of 20:28.

On this momentous occasion he finished exactly one minute short of his PB at 21:28 but finished in his highest ever position of 17th out of 317 runners on the day. A proud moment for Nick who says the support from other fellow club runners has helped his progress.

Another event on Saturday saw many runners taking part in the Pontesbury Potter which was a very muddy, cold and wet 13 mile trail run or walk with a route not known until on the day. Taking part in this event was Maurice Reid, Helen Reid, Mandy Purves, Sian Rudling, Toni Ireland, Mike Taylor and Steve Fowles.

Sunday 10th saw Lorraine Meredith being the only Newport participant in the Chester 10k, she finished in 2442th place from a field of 3979 runners and was the 21st female in her age catagory to finish the race with an impressive chip time of 1:05:13.

Also on the same day Nick and Sue Wylie took part in the Fradley 10k. Nick finished 300th out of 768 runners with a fabulous chip time of 52:37 and was the 7th male in his age catagory to reach the finish line. Sue cut the finish tape at 545th position with a time of 1:02:06 and was the 12th female in her age catagory.

The other race on Sunday was the massive 20 miler at Knighton which saw many Newport runners use this as a training run for their upcoming marathons.

From a total of 270 runners Neil Jones came in first for Newport in 125th position with a time of 2:52:45, Andrew Storey was 151st at 2:59:53, Joanne Lutner was the first Newport lady over the line in 157th position with a chip time of 3:02:15. Other runners finishing on this cold, muddy morning were Annabelle Montogomery 176th (3:07:44), Ralph Humphreys 224th (3:25:41), Martin Murdoch 230th (3:28:45) and Donna Hesbrook-Edwards 261st (4:01:51).
