Nova Raiders prepare for a busy year ahead

Author | 02 February 2015

In September 2009 12 local friends completed the gruelling 450 mile Pyrenean Raid Cycle Challenge and early the following year the Nova Raiders Cycling Club was formed. Nova Raiders have come a long way in 5 years and to date have raised over £50,000 for local and national charities.

Nova Raiders has grown rapidly and now has over 150 members and pride themselves on being a friendly, social club that welcomes all abilities. Nova Raiders run 4 club rides throughout the week including their increasingly popular Saturday morning ride which is at a steadier pace and is ideal for newcomers. On the first Friday of every month the club hold a social night at the Phez, Newport.

On May 16th 2015 Nova Raiders will be hosting their 4th annual cycling sportive “Route 66” from Longford Hall offering 33 and 66 mile routes taking cyclists through the Shropshire countryside with iconic views of the Wrekin and Shropshire plains.

The club is very active on the local race & time trial scene and this year sees a very busy calendar for the Raiders starting with its own Reliability Ride from the Phez car park on Sunday 15th March. As well as Route 66 the club will be organising their 2nd Snowdon Challenge in late June with competitors cycling to Wales then walking/running up and down Snowdon before cycling back to Newport. Organiser Ian Kevan is confident of a good turnout after last year’s successful event.
