Newport based wheel chair racer Ben Rowlings (18) is on his way to Australia for some warm weather training with his training partner World and Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft MBE. In 2014 Ben won Bronze in the European Championships 800m, he also holds the British records for 100, 200 and 400m. “To be able to train in such conditions with an athlete of the calibre and experience of Hannah is very exciting” said Ben “I have no doubt that this will give me a massive advantage when it comes to competing in the heat of Doha and next year in Rio”. “I am very grateful for the support of the Shropshire Cerebral Palsy Society, Ready and my parents for helping fund this trip and making it possible for me to pursue my dreams”.
“I know that Ben will benefit greatly from this trip” said Hannah, “it is great that people are willing to help people like Ben and invest in disability sport, to continue the legacy of the London 2012 Paralympics” she added.
“Wheelchair racing is an expensive sport and if any companies would be interested in helping me further, I would be delighted if they were to get in touch through my website www.benrowlings.com I know that I have a lot to offer potential sponsors” said Ben.
