Unite and prepare to get pretty muddy

As unique 10k race for life event launches, women in the Midlands are being urged to fight dirty when it comes to conquering cancer by signing up for an exclusive new Pretty Muddy event from Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Cancer Research UK’s event managers are excited to announce that Weston Park has been chosen to host the ONLY 10K Pretty Muddy event in the UK. Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive event similar to other Race for Life events, but with added mud! The unique 10K race will take place for the first time at Weston Park on Saturday 2nd May.

Emily Thompson, Cancer Research UK’s Staffordshire Event Manager, is urging women to take part and unite in the fight against cancer. “If your New Year’s resolutions to get fit are wavering slightly then now is the time to commit to our 10K Pretty Muddy event,” said Emily. “Every hour, more than three people are diagnosed with cancer in the West Midlands* and I am confident that this will provide people with enough motivation to get active and sign up to a Race for Life event.”

Weston Park will also host a 5K Pretty Muddy event on the same day, Saturday 2nd May. Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events which raises millions of pounds every year to help beat 200 different types of cancer. They are non-competitive events, so women of any age, shape or fitness level can take part to form a force to be reckoned with in the fight against cancer.

Race for Life events will take place at 16 venues across the West Midlands region including Telford on Sunday 31st May, Wolverhampton on Wednesday, June 10 and Shrewsbury on Sunday 14th June. Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Emily added: “Living near to Weston Park has meant that I understand how iconic this venue is and I am extremely proud and excited to be bringing the UK’s only 10K Pretty Muddy event to this venue.

“Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women from all over the Midlands to help Weston Park become our best event yet. If cancer can fight dirty, then so can we!”
