Get Hands on with History by Volunteering at Weston Park

Author | 25 March 2015

Weston Park, the stately home on the Shropshire \ Staffordshire border opens its gates for Easter on Saturday 28th March and is actively seeking people to join its friendly team of volunteers.

Now owned and maintained by the Weston Park Foundation, an independent educational charity, volunteers to the estate can contribute to the on-going conservation, preservation and restoration of the estate in a wide variety of roles.

Roles include house guides, room stewards, art gallery assistants and gardeners. One area in particular is that of the Learning Department who welcome over 7,000 school children a year for curriculum based learning.

Enthusiasm and the commitment of a few spare hours a week are all Weston are looking for. In return volunteers will discover the history of the Earls of Bradford and their family, the home’s secret treasures, learn new skills, meet people with similar interests and enjoy a wide range of benefits including discounts, free entry to certain events and an annual dinner in the House.

Besides being open to visitors at Easter and during the summer months, Weston is a leading events venue delivering a wide range of experiences from national outdoor events to hosting weddings, private house parties and conferences – all of which gives ample opportunity for volunteers to get involved all year round on the estate.

Gareth Williams, Curator and Head of Learning at the estate comments: “Sharing Weston with so many visitors takes both time, patience and commitment – but its is great fun and hugely rewarding. There’s a chance to make new friends and learn more about this amazing place. We have an existing team of over 100 volunteers whose passion and commitment to the work that we do here is fantastic, however, we would love to add to their number.
