National Bike Week happens in a few weeks time….but so much is happening that June has been declared Bike Month.
Events are taking place throughout June to encourage people to use their bikes, which are a more sustainable and healthy form of transport.
A range of different rides and activities are being organized throughout Telford and Wrekin as part of the activities for bike month and more details can be found at www.telford.gov.uk/bikemonth
Events include welcome rides for new and returning riders, youth coaching, BMX taster sessions, traffic free rides suitable for families, social evening rides, sporty time trials and a family ride along Ironbridge Way.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport, Customer Services and Libraries, said: “It is a valuable leisure activity and I encourage everyone to get on their bikes and enjoy the park, as well as all the many activities available for Bike Month.”
Bike Month is being organised as part of Travel Telford – which is the council’s sustainable transport initiative.
Travel Telford is overseeing investment in cycle routes from Stafford to Newport through to Telford and there are also improvements being made to the Silkin Way, the borough’s main north south cycle route.”
Telford & Wrekin Council is working co-operatively with a number of partners in the cycling world to promote it as an activity.
These include Newport Cycling Club, Novaraiders Cycling Club, Sustrans, the Bicycle Hub in the Park, Wrekin Riders BMX Club, Wrekinsports, Wrekin Cycle Touring Club and the Telford and Wrekin Bike Users Group.
