Aldi’s newest store in Newport was welcomed by over 250 shoppers hoping to be one of the lucky hundred to get their hands on a ‘golden ticket’.
The new store was officially opened by the Store Manager Tom Cooke, Lord Councillor Mayor Timothy Nelson and Town Crier Peter Taunton, who took part in a special ribbon cutting ceremony.
To celebrate the store opening, golden envelopes containing special tickets to win prizes including a 42” HD LED TV, Bluetooth Speakers and Aldi gift bags were handed out to the first one hundred people in the queue. Becky Humphries took home the star prize, after queuing from 11pm the night before, with many others walking away with great store products.
The Newport store served hot Aldi bacon and sausage sandwiches to customers throughout the morning, and provided entertainment for local families during the day.
The opening of the Newport store has created 40 jobs for the local community. More information on all roles at Aldi and how to apply can be found online at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk.
As part of Aldi’s engagement with the local community, Aldi will be supporting Newport Salop RUFC Juniors with their Rugby World Cup themed Family Fun Day on Sunday 13th September by donating a range of products for the event.
Aldi’s Newport store is served by 110 car parking spaces and features around 1,450 product lines, where customers can expect a wide range of high quality and locally sourced produce. The Aldi Newport store has also arranged for a free bus service to run between the store and the town for local shoppers.
With Aldi’s ‘Specialbuys’ days occurring every Thursday and Sunday offering customers fantastic savings on a range of electrical and household products, Aldi’s opening week ‘Specialbuys’ include Lawnmowers for just £27.99 and Steel Chimneas for only £19.99.
Aldi Store Manager, Tom Cooke, commented: “My team and I very much enjoyed welcoming our new customers to the store; the turnout on the day was fantastic, with 100 people walking away with a prize. “We hope the shoppers enjoyed our celebrations and I would like to thank everyone for their support. We are still actively recruiting for the Newport store and I would encourage members of the local community to apply for a variety of roles on offer.”
