A number of roads in the Newport area are set for major £500,000 investment of this summer in a concentrated resurfacing programme.
The funding has come from the Council’s highway capital programme as part of the Council’s Pride in Your Community initiative to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.
The work is being scheduled to start at the beginning of the school summer holidays from 25 July to help minimise any disruption. The whole works programme is expected to take around eight weeks to complete.The roads the works will focus on are:
• Audley Avenue;
• Audley Road ;
• Ashworth Way;
• Upper Bar/High Street junction;
• Forton Road;
• Lapworth Way/Vineyard Drive;
• Lower Bar (Water Lane to B5062); Meadow Road.
Work will also take place at a later date this year as part of the scheme at two other locations in Newport - Aqualate Close and Shuker Close.Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Business, Customers and Neighbourhood Services, said: “We had originally planned to do this work later in the year but after listening to comments from the community we are now bringing this forward as a priority.
“Making the borough a better place and tackling those things that matter to people where they live is what Pride in Your Community is all about.
“We will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption, and giving more information as soon as we can but focussing most of the work into one concentrated period will we believe help us to manage any disruption, co-ordinate the works and provide value for money.”Residents can also sign up to the Council’s ‘News For You’ alert service to receive regular updates from the Council about the works and their timings.
