Deadline looms for entries to Newport Show

Newport Show Deadlines Looming

Author | 08 June 2016

The organisers of Newport Show have revealed they are hoping for a bumper number of entries for next month’s event. There are more than 500 livestock, horse, dog, and horticulture and handicraft classes to enter at the one-day show at Chetwynd Deer Park on July 9.

This year’s pedigree dog show has more than 200 classes with the winners of Best in Show, reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show qualifying for Crufts. Owners must register their dogs in the competition before June 17.

The closing date for livestock and horse entries is June 24. There are 118 cattle and sheep classes with categories for native and continental dairy and beef cattle and the chance to win coveted titles such as Supreme Interbreed Champion.

Sheep farmers will compete in categories including Texel, Beltex and Zwartbles as well as other continental and native breeds. The horse show includes showing, jumping, and dressage and a qualifying round for the Shire Horse of the Year championships at the Horse of the Year show in October.

There are 140 horticulture and handicraft classes that include chances to exhibit prize vegetables and fruit as well as floral art, handicrafts, photography, and country fayre. All entries must be received by July 2.

Show manager Clare Farrell said: “We are delighted with the number of entries we have received so far but there is always room for more! There is something for everyone to get involved in regardless of their interests.

“With our strong agricultural background, the livestock and equine classes are always very popular and we expect a large turnout again this year. The handicraft and horticulture show has a wide variety of classes for all ages and this is a great way to get involved in the show.”

Last year saw a record breaking 13,000 visitors attend the show and organisers are hoping to top that this July with its new Festival of Food.

The winner of last year’s Great British Bake Off Nadiya Hussain will headline the festival that will feature a street food market, demonstrations and workshops. There is also main ring and family entertainment, a retail court, trade stands, live music, schools marquee, vintage machinery display and antique stalls.

Detailed schedules and how to enter the competitions can be found at www.newportshow.co.uk/exhibitors.
