John Walker had a life changing accident in 2011, that left him in a wheelchair, with a lot of damage to both of my legs and loss of most of my right arm.
Watching the 2012 Paralympics while laid up in bed he saw an American shoot a bow with no arms, he used to be in the army and knew he was a good shot with a rifle so thought "if he can do that, I can do it with one arm".
John and his partner Margaret Harris set about making a shoulder harness which would enable him to shoot. John found that he was pretty good, " I got spotted by a coach from Archery GB who asked me to go to Lilleshall to train so I moved to Newport and love it here and the rest is history really. I became a member of Archery GB".
He has won several medals and became World W1 mixed team gold medalist and Individual Silver medalist in Germany last year. "I have a European Gold mixed team medal won in France this year and I have just competed in Czech and am proud to say that I won 2 Gold medals there".
The icing on the cake was being officially told yesterday that he was on the GB Para team going to Rio to compete for my country. I was overjoyed and overwhelmed as it makes me so proud to be able to serve my country for a second time".
