Author | 30 June 2016

The annual Gnosall Carnival was on June 18th when families came out in the sunshine in their thousands to enjoy the parade through the village and then fun activities and refreshments on St Lawrence school playing fields.

Assembling on Wharf Road were presentation floats by village organisations. Their transport being kindly donated by Stan Robinson Ltd who also paraded vintage lorries and a giant American style vehicle. Led off by a number of Volunteer Blood bikes, the Newport town crier and entourage, led the Carnival Queen, Ava-Rose Newton and her two princesses, Oshia Wingate and Ella Palser, in their horse drawn carriage, on a tour of the spectator lined village streets to the playing fields of St Lawrence school. The long procession also included display floats, fire engines, Stafford Brigades marching band and vintage cars and Ambulance.

The playing fields had been laid out by many volunteers, having planned the event from last July, to provide two activity areas for dance troupe displays, gymnastics, Marching band manoeuvres, PADS dog obedience displays and tug of war competition.

With many test your skill games and a number of refreshment areas, the thousands who attended had hours of interest and fun.

Award presentations included to the Carnival Queen group, winners of the best floats, vintage cars, the tug of war and the organisers and participants of the Carnival 10K run, the finish of which was at the Carnival field. The 10K run was sponsored by Bank Top Garage and organised by Gnosall Ladies Running Club.

Yet another successful Carnival event and valued funds raised for the upkeep of the 11th Century church of St Lawrence.
