Church Eaton Primary School Wins National Green Award

School Wins National Green Award

Author | 19 July 2016

Reaping the rewards from their efforts, Church Eaton School pupils and supporters were delighted to have their hard work recognised by being announced as the winners of The Green School Sustainability Award in the Environment category of the Community Education Awards. This was a National competition with over 600 applicants.

The school has recently developed an allotment and conservation area. There was an Award presentation at the school on Wednesday 13th July and the award was presented by Kelly Griffiths, Awards Organiser, Community Education Awards, Police Community Clubs of Great Britain.

The Community Education Awards help to recognise the valuable work that is undertaken in schools across the UK, especially those that deal with a range of vitally important social issues. The awards are an annual celebration of schools' efforts to help children and young people become positive community members. The awards are designed to highlight and reward the most effective projects being delivered in schools and within their local community. Educating children and young people about sustainability is essential as our actions will affect our planet and the choices and quality of life available to future generations.

The Green School Sustainability Award acknowledges the kind of projects which may lower a carbon footprint; promote renewable energy; encourage sustainability or improve the environment through cultivating a vegetable patch or school garden.

Located just outside Stafford, Church Eaton Primary school beat hundreds of other highly regarded schools, testament to how hard the school has worked to create an outdoor area where children can learn to grow fruit and vegetables. The produce is then taken to the school kitchen, where children learn different ways to use their fresh produce.
In addition to the new vegetable allotment area, the school pupils enjoy the benefits of learning about nature and wildlife as the school has a dipping pond.

The school was awarded OFSTED ‘GOOD’ in 2015. Pre-reception and Reception places are available at this nurturing, rural school where pupils thrive in a caring environment with strong values. The school offers the option of wrap-around care for Pre-Reception pupils. There is also a before and after school club onsite for working parents.
