Six representatives of a local Natural England volunteer group ( 20 in total ), attended an event at the London Wetland Centre, Barnes, London on 13th July 2016.
The volunteers assist in maintaining the sites of special scientific interest (SSSI) at Aqualate Mere (near Newport), Chartley Moss (on A518 near Stowe) and Mottey Meadows (Wheaton Aston).
The event was organised by Natural England under the “Graftas” banner (Green Awards for Terrific Achievers) and attended by people who work and volunteer for Natural England throughout the country.
The team from Aqualate were delighted to receive a Runner Up award in the ‘Team Volunteer’ category against tough nationwide competition. Adam Dempsey, Senior Reserve Manager, Staffordshire National Nature Reserves (NNR ) commented: “We’re really proud of all our volunteers and the result is a testament to all their dedication and hard work on the NNR’s over several years.
Their knowledge, skills, enthusiasm, work ethic and support for Natural England and each other is an excellent example of the true spirit of volunteering.”
