Local Band will WOW at OMG Live 2014

Author | 22 November 2013

After the excitement of Band Slam this year where local bands competed for the chance to perform at T-Live on the same stage as bands such as McFly, another opportunity has arisen for a band to perform at Birmingham’s huge LG Arena.

OMG Live is a great opportunity for young local talented bands to get an amazing chance to perform on stage at the LG Arena in Birmingham with shortlisted bands also being invited to perform at The Place Theatre in Oakengates in January 2014.

Telford & Wrekin Music is looking for young talented musicians aged between 13 and 18 and in bands to apply to perform at OMG Live 2014.

One lucky band will be selected to perform three songs live at the LG Arena on 24 April as well as receiving a support development package from professionals in the music industry.

Not only will the winners be performing alongside other up and coming bands, they will also be performing on the same stage as some well established chart artists.

Applications are currently being invited from local bands who need to make sure they apply by 6 December to be in with a chance of being shortlisted.

Shortlisted bands will then be invited to Oakengates Theatre @ The Place on 23 January where each act will perform three songs to a panel of independent judges.

Two of the three songs will be the bands own compositions and the third song will be chosen from a provided playlist for the bands to play their own unique interpretation.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “I think the opportunities being created in Telford and Wrekin for local bands to be heard and perform to large audiences is fantastic.

“Just a few months ago local bands The Making and Madison won the Band Slam competition which meant they got to perform at this year’s T-Live ahead of the likes of Stooshe and McFly in front of crowds of over 3000.

“The bands were delighted to win and overwhelmed at the response they got performing to such a big crowd.

“Telford is brimming over with talent and events such as these allow us to celebrate all that talent on a larger scale and provide some recognition for all the hard work these young people are putting in to be heard.”

Each of the 14 West Midlands Local Authorities will be running similar competitions for a band to win a place to perform at the LG, and well known chart artists who will also play at OMG Live are due to be announced in December.

Application forms are available from telford.music@telford.gov.uk or by phoning 01952 380981.
