Taylor Wimpey Invite Local Residents to Have Their Say

Author | 29 November 2013

Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey in conjunction with Extra Care provider Bestnature Ltd are inviting people in Newport, Shropshire, to have their say on plans for a new mixed-use residential development and retirement village in the town.

The developers are currently drawing up plans for a development of approximately 100 new homes, plus a 108-unit retirement village, on land to the south of Stafford Road and West of the A41. The scheme will feature a vehicle access from Stafford Road, making use of the existing roundabout at the junction of Stafford Road and the A41.

The site already has planning consent for a retirement village; however it is considered a housing element is also required to enable a retirement village scheme to come forward. The revised proposals are considered to provide a more sustainable scheme with a holistic range of accommodation that would cater for all ages of the Newport community.

The proposals will be unveiled during a public exhibition being held at the Mere Park Garden Centre restaurant in Stafford Road on Monday 9th December from 3pm to 8pm.

This public consultation event will give local residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties the chance to find out more about the scheme and discuss the plans with both the Taylor Wimpey project team and the owner of Bestnature Ltd.

Comments received from those who attend the event will be used to help the developers shape the scheme before they submit a planning application to Telford and Wrekin Council at a later date.

Ken Phillips, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey North Midlands, says: “We believe it is crucial to give members of the local community the opportunity to get involved and have their say on development plans for their area, and this is why we are inviting them to come and find out more about our emerging scheme for the Stafford Road site.

“Anyone who comes along to the public exhibition on Monday 9th December will be able to speak to members of the Taylor Wimpey project team to find out more about our proposals and provide their feedback on how they think our development should look.”

The retirement village scheme will feature one and two-bedroom apartments, two and three-bedroom bungalows and 28 assisted living units for people over 65 who are looking for independent living with the benefit of 24-hour assistance on site if required.

The scheme will also boast a restaurant, a library/internet room, a games room, a salon, a doctor, a hydrotherapy pool and landscaped gardens, some of which will be open to the wider community on a membership/appointment basis. The development will create a number of both full and part-time jobs.

The public exhibition is taking place on Monday 9th December from 3pm to 8pm at the Mere Park Garden Centre restaurant in Stafford Road, and all are welcome to attend.
