Santa Claus Launches Small Business Saturday in Newport

Santa Claus Launches Small Business Saturday

Author | 06 December 2013

Despite his usual hectic pre-Christmas schedule Santa Claus took time out to help Newport’s ‘town team’ launch activities for ‘Small Business Saturday’ scheduled for 7th December.

Mike Atherton, Newport’s Town Team Manager said “Small Business Saturday is part of a national campaign that aims to recognise local businesses for the services they provide and the jobs that they create. The Town Team and Newport’s Chamber of Commerce are both delighted that Santa Claus has joined us in thanking Newport’s local businesses for their year-round efforts”

Local trader Emma Barnes from Daisy Chain fashion store commented “Part of the celebrations involve Santa Claus handing out treats to young and not so young people in the town centre between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon on Saturday 7th December. This is a small thank you on behalf of local businesses to all of our customers for helping to keep local shops and businesses viable in these challenging trading conditions”.

Mike Atherton added that he was “delighted by this contribution to an ongoing ‘shop local’ campaign aimed at sustaining traditional high streets like Newport’s. It is really important for shoppers to recognise the value of shopping local and for traders to enhance their offer, and they do here in Newport - that’s what makes our town centre so special”

Meanwhile Santa Claus insisted on having the last word “firstly thanking Waitrose and B&M for their generous donations to Small Business Saturday, and then confirming that he and his little helpers would do everything possible to ensure that Newport shoppers wishes come true this Christmas and that our local traders really do have a prosperous New Year...... ho, ho, ho”
