Telford Libraries to Launch Online Lending Service

Author | 17 April 2014

Telford & Wrekin Council’s library service is launching a new online lending service for virtual and audio books. The new service is being launched on April 23 to celebrate World Book Night. Members of the public will be able to choose from more than 500 ebook titles and download them for free.

The service is compatible with a number of e-readers including Sony Reader, Nook, Kobo, iPhone, Android and Kindle Fire (but not the basic Kindle).

It can be accessed from home or using the council’s free Wifi service in selected libraries and other council buildings. Library members can choose titles they wish to read and download them for up to 21 days each by visiting www.telford.gov.uk/libraries.

All titles can be borrowed and reserved for free and loans automatically expire so there are no overdue charges. New ebooks are being added to the collection all the time and the catalogue has a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles to suit a variety of tastes.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Libraries, said: “This is a logical extension to the services offered by our libraries and means people can access e-books and audio books at no charge. “We are very excited about the potential that the service offers and we are looking to add to the selection of ebooks in the coming months.”
