Companies support Newport’s Summer Crowd-Puller

NEWPORT Show organisers are calling for more support as costs of staging the farming extravaganza rise every year. Officials have welcomed several key sponsors onboard but say the economic climate continues to deter others from coming forward. Show manager Clare Farrell said: “Every bit of infrastructure including marquees, road barriers and toilets now cost more to hire. “This year’s show will leave little change out of £150,000 - more than ever before.

“Sponsorship remains incredibly important to the future of the show which is why we are so deeply grateful to those companies which have offered their support either in cash or kind. “Although newspaper reports say the economy is picking up it’s clear from our contact with local companies that there is still a great deal of caution felt over committing resources.”

Among the companies to throw their weight behind the show are AR Richards, Barringtons Chartered Accountants, Brewin Dolphin, Criddle & Co, Peter Booth Electrical Contractors Ltd, Greenvale AP and The Wrekin Housing Trust. Sponsorship will help turn the Chetwynd Deer Park into a stunning show venue on Saturday, July 12 when more than 13,000 people are expected.

Massive marquees will house food, flowers, antiques, craft and children’s art and photography. Main ring attraction will be Aussie motorcycle stuntmen, The Kangaroo Kids. Mrs Farrell added: “Despite rising costs we never skimp on quality or the calibre of entertainment. We listen to feed-back and try to make every year better than the last.”

Barringtons managing director Phil Wood, who has offices in Newport, said: “Our Shropshire office has strong links with the farming community and that’s why we like the show. It remains true to its farming roots but is also a great day out for people from all walks of life.”
