The Newport Nocturne attracts some of the biggest names in cycling. This year's event will take place on Saturday 30th August and the organisers, Nick Jeggo and his Father Mick, hope to include the elite British women cyclists Laura Trott, Joanna Roswell, Dani King and Lizzie Armistead. It's hoped that another Olympic medal winner, Ed Clancy will return for another race here in Newport.
The flood-lit event, which covers the High Street and the cobbled street of St. Marys will see a men's and women's race plus another showpiece competition to be annouced later. This spectacular night race, run in the heart of Newport has been agreed with British Cycling to fall only a week before the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire.
Mr Jeggo is looking to raise £23,000 through local investors looking to take advantage of the high profile these races will receive. Mr Jeggo said that 'a large percentage of the £23,000 Nocturne running costs, almost half, goes on barriers and lights to illuminate the streets.' Any sponsors wishing to be involved in this spectacular night time event should contact Mr Jeggo on 07967 452688. Updates can be found on their Facebook page.
