Originally an event that the Chamber of Commerce held for their members, but when Eva Allan was Mayor of Newport she felt that non-member’s should also have the opportunity to participate as all businesses contribute to the town’s prosperity. There are several Shields up for grabs that are presented each year as follows: John Henshaw Chamber of Commerce, Eva Allan Newport Town Council (Under the flag of Newport Town Council, Eva Allan presents a shield for the non members). Bill Barrass Charity Shop Shield, Kath Crewe Overall Winner Businesses of Newport get your windows dressed ready to be judged. Different independent judges are appointed each year to keep the competition fresh. The results will be in by the 16th of December and the shields along with five of the highly commended certificates are presented on the 22nd December.
