From Newport to Berlin for Marathon Runners

The weekend of 6/7 April saw a few events both nationally and on the continent with a number of Newport entries in a Marathon, a Half Marathon and a local 10k race.

On Sunday 7th Louise Patterson travelled to Germany to take part in the Berlin Half Marathon. With warm conditions of 20 degrees she managed to get through it by trying to keep herself in the shade and staying hydrated throughout, finishing in 2 hours, 48 minutes and 55 seconds and vowing to return next year for another go.

Jennie Waters and Sheryl Stuart both took the short trip over to Manchester for the annual Manchester Marathon. Running from Old Trafford, through Stretford, Sale, Altringham, Timperley, Carrington, Stretford and then back into Old Trafford. Jennie completed in 4:24:40, meanwhile Sheryl, who joined the Newport Couch-to-5k beginners group only 2 years ago managed to complete her first marathon in 4:10:59, this will be her first marathon of three which she will complete in under 4 weeks, travelling to Wales next and then Milton Keynes .

Meanwhile back in Shropshire 6 Newport runners took part in the Whitchurch 10k, a few challenging inclines and mainly on the road, the weather conditions were perfect.
First in for Newport was Annabelle Montgomery recording a sub 50 PB of 49 minutes and 31 seconds. Next in was Colin Woolley in 247th place (51:15), then Lee Sutton crossed the line in 54:26 just one minute short of his PB, Donna Hesbrook-Edwards recorded her 2nd PB of the weekend in 1:01:24 (having recorded a Parkrun PB only 24 hours earlier). Next over the finishing line for Newport was Sue Wylie who ran in at 1:03:41 and finally Louise Heath who ran her first ever 10k recorded an impressive first finish time of 1:07:42.
