Can you volunteer to help the most vulnerable?

Author | 27 March 2020

Telford & Wrekin Council is stepping up support for the most vulnerable people in local communities and calling on volunteers to help.

Vulnerable people across the borough are shielding themselves from coronavirus and the Council and local communities are doing all they can to support them to stay safe, well and connected.

Additional help is also being offered for those people who don’t have family, friends or neighbours to call on.

Local residents who can help the Council to help others are being asked to volunteer.

Picking up medications, doing a little shopping, dog walking or simply phoning for a chat with someone isolating at home are some of the ways volunteers can make a difference.

Can you help? If you can, then please sign up here. There is a simple form to complete, giving your contact details, location and how you are able to help.

Those people in our community who need support can also use the link to ask for help. If easier though, people can call the Community Support Helpline on 01952 382030.

Cllr Shaun Davies, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “Seeing communities rally together to help each other is fantastic, but sadly not everyone has someone they can turn to. Also some of us may have a good support network now, but the people who are helping us may not always be well enough to continue.

“We all need to know that we can get help when we need it most. This is why we have set up our helplines and why we are calling on volunteers to come forward.

“We need to work together and we need your help. So if you can help, please sign up. You will be making a real difference.”
