All About Newport

that, like me, he will have had instilled in him the importance of good manners, respect for others and the need to take responsibility for his actions. He will no doubt like me remember what we learnt about resilience (or ‘stickability’ as we call it at Muxton) from Mr Bentley who used to frequently and spontaneously recite the lyrics of Billy Ocean’s “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I can’t possibly predict what technical knowledge our children may need to do their jobs in the future but I do know that if they have the right attitudes to learning, have the skills and confidence to communicate and interact with each other and have high expectations of themselves, they will be successful. These are the fundamental values which we strive to instil in our children atMuxton. Children of all ages regularly work alongside and support each other and we aim to provide as many opportunities as possible for our children to develop their leadership skills in roles such as prefects, sports captains, librarians and school councillors. Each child belongs to one of our four houses of Wenlock, Wrekin, Ironbridge and Granville. This promotes a strong sense of belonging and teamwork throughout school. Children earn house points for their successes and achievements in many aspects of everyday school life, both within and beyond the academic curriculum. Our three, consecutive Artsmark ‘Gold’ awards recognise our commitment to the arts in our curriculum and children have opportunities to participate in and excel in a wide range of sporting and musical activities. So back to the car keys. If I was to agree to lend my car to someone for six hours, I would expect them to keep it safe, drive it carefully, get to know it well, expect it to perform to the best of its ability and, most of all, enjoy the experience. I hope that expectations from our parents and families are equally as high as they hand over their children to us each day at Muxton.
