Fifty shades of Green

Tony and Kate Bennett have been opening The Wickets at Wheaton Aston

for the National Gardens Scheme for several years.

Their next opening is on Sunday 30th August.

They have raised over £5000 for its charities which

principally are Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie

Curie Cancer Care, Hospice UK, Carers Trust & Queen’s

Nursing Institute.

Situated opposite The Hartley Arms near the

Shropshire Union Canal and formerly the village

police house & station, the site covers a third of an

acre. The front garden is quite traditional with rose

and herbaceous beds which reward close inspection.

Pass down the side of the house though, and you

will have an OMG moment as the vista opens to the

pond and railway station platform and then walk

around to find its hidden secrets. This quirky garden

is full of original ideas that inspires other gardeners.

It is a garden with a sense of humour and is made up

of a host of themed areas, for example, ‘Fifty Shades

of Green’ its fernery, The Gothic Gardyne complete

with regal thrones, a Japanese dry stream garden, its

own cricket match and you are welcome to play clock

golf on the lawn. Open from 1:30 to 5pm on

Sunday

30th August

at 47 Long Street, Wheaton Aston, ST19

9NF. Entrance is just £3 per adult, Children free; teas

available.
