Made in America: finding American

antiques & fine art in Britain

Freeman’s, America’s oldest auction house

, located

in Philadelphia will be sending several specialists

to the UK in search of American-made fine and

decorative arts, silver, porcelain, furniture and more.

The eight day tour will include stops in Glasgow,

Edinburgh, Shropshire and London withWeston Park,

the 17th century stately home on the Shropshire \

Staffordshire border welcoming the Freeman’s team

for an

Open Valuation Day

in the Music Room at

Weston Park on Monday 3rd August

Experts from Freeman’s will be on the lookout for

pieces of Americana and offering valuations.

From William Penn who founded the Pennsylvania

colony only to return home to England later, to

nouveau riche American heiresses marrying British

nobility for titles in the early 1900’s, Yankees and Brits

have been travelling across the pond for centuries.

As a result, many American-made furniture, wares

and paintings have found their way to the UK.

At Weston Park, Freeman’s fine and decorative

art specialists will be providing complimentary

valuations. David Walker, Head of Fine Collections

and English and Continental Furniture, Silver and

Decorative Arts will be also be providing definitive

answers to those wondering: Is it American or British?

Colin Sweeney, Chief Executive of the Weston Park

Foundation comments; “We are looking forward to

welcoming specialists from the Freeman’s team to

Weston and we are delighted our American friends

are making a stop with us in Shropshire on their tour.”

Gareth Williams, Curator to the Weston Park

Foundation adds: “Weston Park’s collection –

renowned for its international importance – has

several works with American links in the form of

paintings in the Dining Room by Robert Edge Pine.

Pine was an artist who found new fame and fortune

in Philadelphia and his works are in a number of

important American collections”
