Newport Christmas Lights Switch On

24 November 2017 - Newport Shropshire

what's happening on the day

Join in the excitement of the countdown to Christmas, when Newport gets its magic festive feel with the official switch on of the decorative lights throughout the town.

A procession including Father Christmas will travel from the Guildhall to St Nicholas Church at 6pm. The switch on of the lights will take place at 6:15pm and will be switched on by the overall Christmas Card Competition winner. This will be followed by a festive sing-a-long in the church accompanied by the Salvation Army.

Nova FM will be providing live entertainment on The Buttercross from 4pm.

The Rotary Club of Newport in association with Newport Town Council and The Newport Advertiser, run the initiative to give local people the opportunity to remember a loved one, while at the same time raising money for Charity. The Tree of Light will be placed at the junction of Wellington Road opposite The Shakespeare Inn. Members of the public are invited to donate a minimum of £5.00 to sponsor a white light. In return the names of loved ones they wish to remember will be printed in a December edition of the Newport Advertiser and a Memorial Book will be displayed in the town Library early in the New Year. If you wish to take part forms are available from The Guildhall and on Newport Town Council Website. www.newportshropshire-tc.gov.uk
