Newport Show Seeks New Event Manager

Author | 27 November 2017

A rare opportunity to take over the management of Newport Show has emerged.

Clare Farrell, who has been at the helm for 14 years, is stepping down, paving the way for a new manager.

The one-day show, held each year in July, attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the country to the showground at Chetwynd Deer Park. Next year’s event – the 109th to take place – will be held on July 14.

The show retains its links to the original agricultural brief with livestock, sheep and equine classes, but has developed into a substantial family friendly day out with a Festival of Food, live music and family entertainment, vintage vehicle and machinery displays, trade stands, antique stalls, education marquee, handicraft and horticulture competitions, and fairground rides.

Robert Watson Jones is the Chairman of Trustees at Newport and District Agricultural Society, which runs the show. He paid tribute to Clare and her achievements since she took over the role.

“Since Clare became manager, she has worked closely with the trustees, the show’s committee members and volunteers, and a small team, to help mould the show into the successful event that it is today,” said Robert.

“We are very grateful to Clare for her hard work over the past 14 years and she is leaving the show with a very positive and sustainable outlook for the future.”

He said the Society was looking for a dynamic and forward thinking individual with experience in event management as Show Manager.

“We are looking for someone with impeccable organisational and managerial skills with an enthusiasm for agriculture, food and the countryside, who is able to work closely with the society and members to deliver our vision for the show.

“We will be looking for a person who will bring innovative and interesting ideas for the show to the table. The post will be part time and offer flexible working for the successful candidate.”

Information and how to apply for the Show Manager post is available at www.newportshow.co.uk/about-the-show/join-our-team/

The deadline for applications is December 8 with interviews expected to take place during December.
