The work on display is a mixed media exhibition of paintings and prints from local artists Dave Heath and Roger Keeling.
This contemporary artwork collection has been inspired by local landscapes, scenes captured during travels across Europe and images that focus on a marine theme. The artwork is the product of Dave and Roger’s enthusiasm for the medium of prints and paintings and a genuine interest in the subjects, and all of the artworks are done on location.
David Heath was born and brought up in North Staffordshire on the edges of the Peak District close to the Roaches and bordering the market town of Leek. He has been greatly influenced by the moorland and fell landscape and most of all by a love of the dramatic and threatening skies that have such an effect on the land below. He has moreover, through an interest in running on the fells become increasingly more at one with gaining a “feeling of the landscape” hence his belief that the work is rather more than a simple representation of what is seen.
Most of David’s working life has been as an art teacher, firstly in Lancashire and latterly for thirty years in Shropshire this followed a brief period in the advertising industry where he was employed as a visualiser.
David’s work involves the use of pastels and coloured pencils, here the pastels and coloured pencils are worked layer on layer giving texture and colour to create the exciting atmosphere of the subject.Alongside this work are the more recent editions of Lino prints that have explored the landscapes experienced during a number of cycle tours across Europe.
David’s work has previously been exhibited in a number of galleries that include, The Silk Top Hat in Ludlow, now Twenty Twenty, The Moorlands Arts Centre in Leek,The Coachman’s House Gallery in Newport and the Edge Arts Centre Much Wenlock. David’s artistic influences include David Hockney, John Piper, Graham Sutherland, Kurt Jackson and the Lino prints of Ian Phillips and last but not least David Hunt a Landscape painter in Leek.
Roger Keeling's connection to David has been as a teaching colleague for thirty years and a cycling companion over more miles than we both care to remember.
