Youngsters are being given the opportunity to take part in a range of free Halloween-themed activities in Newport this half term.

The Newport Youth Café Project will be hosting pumpkin carving sessions, mini-Halloweenpinata making and a not so spooky toddler story time.

There will also be an opportunity for youngsters, aged eight upwards, to take part in a sign language taster session run by a British Sign Language expert.

All activities will take place The Hub Community Café which is located at The Hub building on High Street.

Jenni Marshallmanager for The Hub, said volunteers were looking forward to a fun-packed week of Halloween activities.

She said: It should be a great few days with lots of free activities to suit all ages and keep everyone entertained.  

“We’re particularly looking forward to seeing some spooky pumpkin carvings and being able to teach more young people the basics of sign language which is a fantastic skill for anyone to have.”

The pumpkin carving sessions will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 27,and Thursday, October 28th from 12pm to 1.30pm and 2pm to 3pm. 

The mini-Halloween pinata craft session will take place on Thursday, October 28, from 10am to 11am and then 11am to 12pm. On Friday, October 29, the pinata making will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am and in the afternoon from 2pm to 3pm.

The drop-in ‘not so spooky’ toddler story time session will take place on Wednesday, October 27, between 10.30am and 11.30am. Simple craft activities will also be available for older siblings in attendance.

The British Sign Language taster session will be on Friday 29th October, at 1pm, and no booking is required for this.

The Newport Youth Café Project was established in 2013 to provide a safe and creative space for the young people of Newport to gather.

The project also aims to provide opportunities and experiences for young people, including those who might otherwise have difficulties getting work experience due to disability, mental health issues or other reasons.
