Join us for a fantastic day exploring Newport’s rich history!
Saturday 12th September 2026, 10:00am – 4:00pm, FREE entry – Everyone is welcome!
This year’s Heritage Open Day gives you the opportunity to visit five historic sites, all open to the public:
Guildhall
The Black Shed
Newport Chapel
St Nicholas Church (including the tower*)
Newport Indoor Market
On the cobbled road at the end of St Nicholas Church, adjacent to The Hub, you’ll find a mobile belfry where you can have a go at bell ringing and test your skills.
At Newport Indoor Market, there’ll be plenty to keep the whole family entertained, including:
Children’s colouring competitions
Children’s weaving competitions
Live weaving demonstrations
Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand at every venue to share fascinating stories, answer your questions, and help you discover the history of these wonderful buildings.
St Nicholas Church Tower Tours
Tours of the tower must be pre-booked due to limited spaces. Book your place here:

History Society Guided walking tours
There will be 2 guided walks leaving from the Guildhall at 11am and 1:30pm. The walks must be pre-booked due to limited spaces. Book your place here:
