Newport Runners Compete Far and Wide

Author | 07 May 2019

Whilst some of our runners were resting up after last week's London Marathon. On Sunday 5th May some folk were up and away to North Wales to pitch up in caravans and tents for the weekend, but while they were enjoying their long weekend away, 4 of our runners were taking part in the Llangollen 10k.

Out of a list of 382 starters Maurice Reid was the only Newport male finisher and came in at an impressive 68th (47:59), Helen Reid led the pack of Newport ladies by coming in at 339th in 1:11:07, followed by Sian Rudling 366th (1:19:33) 7th in her age category and Karen Woodcock in 379th (1:27:53) 9th in her age category, her first competitive run after breaking her leg.

Down in the West country Steve Cannon was the sole Newport runner in the Bristol 10k and impressed himself with a PB of 54:58, strolling in at 4109th position.

Louise Patterson took the trip up to Merseyside to race in the Liverpool Spring 10k. She came over the finish line in 1:13:28.

10 of our 12 London Marathon finishers assembled at the weekly club night for a photoshoot with their medals and received a heart warming round of applause from the other runners in the club, Bethany Perry had only begun the couch to 5k beginners course this time last year and even made it into the BBC sport website for her achievements, whilst other runners in the club were finishing their first marathons for some it was not their first, Donna Hesbrook-Edwards had raised over £4000 for Severn Hospice in memory of her friend who sadly lost her battle with cancer.

Well done to all 12 runners involved and those who raised money for good causes.
