Newport Launches It’s Own Reusable Cup

Author | 06 June 2019

Sustainable Newport are going to be launching a reusable coffee cup scheme at the Carnival. The "Newport Cup" scheme has been worked on with the aid of Zero Waste Events and Cup Solutions who recently launched the successful Shrewsbury Cup.

The premise of the cup scheme is that consumers who've forgotten or don't carry their own reusable take-away coffee cup can pay a £1 deposit at participating venues to borrow one of the Newport cups. They then get their deposit back when they return the cup to any of the participating venues. The brightly colored cups have been chosen to tie in with the Newport in Bloom color scheme for this years baskets as part of our community effort for them to achieve Gold standard in this years Britain in Bloom competition.

Sustainable Newport are passionate about helping events like the Carnival reduce their Environmental impact so have ordered a large quantity which can be used at events. Participating traders will be asked to pay the deposit for the cups which go to their stand which will get returned as consumers use them. The Sustainable Newport stand will be set up as a cup return point for the day, as they were for the recent Field to Fork festival.

Simone Whitfield From Sustainable Newport said ‘we're pleased to be bringing as part of our Plastic Free Communities engagement and Shropshire Against Pointless Plastic collaboration, Plastic Pixel Art to the carnival they will be on the stand next to us. Plastic Pixel Art is an interactive edutainment installation that explores the employment of waste plastic through art, play and construction.’

Look out for those Bright Green, Blue and Pink Newport Cups.
