At RAF Cosford on Sunday 1 September the weather was fine and warm for the annual Spitfire 10K which began outside Hangar One, taking runners around the Museum site, past several iconic aircraft, before entering the RAF Cosford airfield! During this gently undulating course the runners got to run a flat and even path route up around the airfield and down the runway before a reverse route back to the finish line.

Ben Roper took on a great run at the Cilcain Mountain Race. He last did it in 2008 and the course has changed slightly in that time and is now a little longer, however it’s still the same great race with plenty to do for the whole family at the accompanying village show.... including teddy bear parachuting from the top of the village church.... what more could you want from a bank holiday Monday. His time for the 7.5km was 0:53:23.
A superb run took part on Wednesday 28th August around the fast and flat country roads in the lovely village of Ellerdine for the Ellerdine Effort 5k. Once again organised by the fantastic Telford Athletics Club and over £1400 raised for Blood Bikes and 3 cancer charities.
First home for Newport was Neil Jones 21.13 followed by Darren Hesbrook-Edwards 22.47. Ralph Humphries came in at 25.08 followed by Ollie Stokes 26.10 and Donna Hesbrook-Edwards 28.54.
Friday 30 August Emily Pope took part in the RSABI Great Glen Challenge. With three of her colleagues she completed the 87km multi sport race which included kayaking, walking, mountain biking and a 10.6 mile run. She took on the running section wearing her Newport vest. And their team only went and won the whole challenge! In weather warning rainy and windy conditions it was tough but an amazing experience.
