Newport opticians opens its doors

Author | 28 October 2019

A BRAND new optical and audiology service in Newport, Shropshire was officially opened by Newport Town Mayor.

Specsavers at Unit 9, Baddeley Court is now welcoming customers through its doors and providing the very best optical and audiology service to the community. As well as the Mayor, Councillor Peter Scott, who cut the ribbon, the team was joined by Gary Hickey, headteacher from Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar School, the chairmen of both Newport Bowls Club and Newport Rugby Club, Shropshire Seniors pool captain and the President of Newport Chamber of Commerce.

In true celebration style, a spec-tacular cake was available for customers to sample and the store was decorated with balloons. Visitors were also greeted by a race car outside, kindly provided by the University of Wolverhampton’s Racing Team which Newport’s sister store in Telford sponsor.

Run by two store directors, Rizwaan Makda and Vinay Najran who also head up Specsavers in Telford, the eight-strong team will provide a customer-focussed service and build strong community links.

‘We were delighted to have the Mayor help us to officially open the store,’ says Riz. ‘We’ve invested in some state-of-the-art equipment, including an OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan which can help detect treatable eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, sooner. This will help ensure we’re better able to look after the eyes of local people.’

The new store also benefits from three optical consulting rooms, a contact lens area and a dedicated sound-proof audiology room.

‘Supporting the local community is very important to us so we’re delighted that some key stakeholders come along to our official opening,’ says Vinay. ‘We’re already sponsoring Newport Rugby Club and Newport Bowls Club and are looking forward to getting involved with more local causes.’

The Newport store is open Monday - Saturday and free parking is available on site. To make an appointment, pop into the store at Unit 9 Baddeley Court, 6-16 High Street, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7GQ, call 01952 310 210 or go to www.specsavers.co.uk/stores/newportshropshire
