Birmingham Super Sprint Triathlon: 26/9/20 (Report and photos by Colin Mahy)
Chloe Mahy, a member of Newport & District Running Club for the last two years, and her friend Emily took part in the Birmingham Super Sprint Triathlon on Saturday. It took place at Alderford Lake near Whitchurch, and was the first triathlon that Chloe had ever entered. Chloe’s start time was 8:02am, when she then plunged herself into the lake for the swimming leg with Emily following fifteen seconds later.
Two hundred metres later, she was out of the water and running towards her bike, drying herself as she went along. With a quick change, Chloe started her twenty kilometre cycle ride around the outskirts of Whitchurch. Finally it was the running section. This was two and a half kilometres around the edge of Alderford Lake. A tired Chloe ran through a very quiet finish line, due the restriction on spectators, with Emily not far behind. Once the chip times were finalized the results were in. Chloe had come first with Emily a close third.
Cheshire Half Marathon: 20/9/20
Last weekend, Daniel Miles was the sole Newport & District Running Club representative joining over 700 other runners in the Cheshire Half Marathon, one of the first mass-participation running events to take place since the early spring. Starting and finishing at Capesthorne Hall, the flat-ish route took the runners around country roads near the Hall, including two passes through the village of Siddington.
Daniel was pleased to smash his previous PB by 6 minutes, taking 158th position in the race with an incredibly quick time of 1 hour, 28 minutes, 19 seconds, and showing that all that lockdown training has paid off.
