A generous partnership across Shropshire has for the first time enabled Shropshire Christmas cards for Alzheimer's Research UK Shropshire to be completely funded. The cards display Shropshire in its many various splendid winter moods (photos below).
"Judy Mainwaring from Pictureworks Photography in Shrewsbury generously let us have the run of her fabulous photos from which we had a hard job to choose" said Katie Foster, Chair of the official Shropshire Fundraising Group "and a hand-painted Robin by Anne Bryson, and then Telford Business Club agreed to cover artwork & design by Tristan King of Voodoo Design in Wellington who has helped us before; then the icing on the cake was the sponsorship of all the printing by Home Instead East Shropshire, the care company which offers personalised and individual help in people's homes. We couldn't be more thrilled and grateful - especially since this year Covid has decimated all our usual fundraising events" added Katie, who lives in Newport .
Bright Gurupira of Home Instead commented: " Our staff regularly see the heartache dementia causes and so for us to sponsor the printing seemed to be just one way we can help fund the vital research needed to find a meaningful treatment and cure"
Judy from Pictureworks Photography was happy to add her support ""It's good to be able to help a local fundraising group raise money for such an important cause. Most people, including me, know someone who is living with the sadness of dementia and if my photos can bring some Christmas cheer and also help to raise some cash for vital research then I'm very glad to help".
Telford Business Club regularly supports the Alzheimer's Research UK Shropshire Group but as Club Chairman Nigel West of Fiveways Insurance in Newport commented "this year it's been difficult to hold many physical meetings of the Business Club but we all want to support their fundraising and were happy to help with the cards which we have supported before. Now we just want to see people buying them!"
The Alzheimer's Research UK Shropshire fundraisers hope that Covid restrictions will encourage more people to send cards as there is likely to be less chance of visiting friends and relations this year. "Every penny raised will go towards funding the vital research needed to end the heartbreak of dementia - Katie says "and this year it's more important than ever as the charity is already about 45% down in income.
