When our niece, Hannah, emerged from University after being faced with two consecutive years taken from her by the pandemic, yet still managing to get her degree, we were inspired to combine her skills with design and online marketing with my engineering prowess; thus the Modula Designs concept was born, and we were able to take off.
My name is Rod, and - according to my wife Jill - just can’t sit still as my mind is constantly burning with new ideas every day. I’m a retired engineer, having spent my entire adult life creating saleable products through manufacturing, and employing a substantial workforce in my previous successful business. I also have several awards under my belt from said business success, with three patents; with a new one pending for our latest products’ unique construction method.
We now live in this beautiful part of the UK on the Staffordshire and Shropshire border, with a booming workshop attached to the house to allow me to continue to work on my ever-growing list of ideas, and to start our new business idea that I hope my niece will soon control once we continue to grow and look to operate from a factory unit.
Our family values and support for our local area take the helm in our mission; to manufacture local products, for local people, and to employ local people both young and old.
We also hope that our products can contribute to lowering our carbon footprint, as we have also had a major focus on sustainability and recyclability in every step of our processes.
Our products are fully recyclable, and in their design we have aimed to include versatility and - hence our name - modular freedom.
We aim for our products to appeal to the whole family, with an accent on fun and function, harmonizing storage with productivity in more compact spaces.
Further in their design, we have crafted our products to use less materials than average, with our MDF shelving being 3mm thick with no sagging, as opposed to the normal 15-18mm thickness more widely available.
The product frame itself is composed of 20mm box section aluminium, which can be brought to life in a variety of vibrant colours we can offer, to accent any living space or personality.
This strong and supported material allows us to make our shelving and backdrop boards so thin without the worry of fragility, as well as in alternate and more recyclable materials like bamboo.
We hope that all of these facets to our work come together to create longevity not just for our products, but for our small, family-run business as well.
