Formed in May 1921 - The Royal British Legion is a charity that provides life-long support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces and their families. They are the national custodian of Remembrance, they organise the annual Poppy Appeal, and campaign to improve the lives of the Armed Forces community.
Responding to need
For 100 years the Royal British Legion has helped serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
From those who served in the First World War to the men and women of our Armed Forces today, we believe no-one should suffer for having served others.
As we reflect on our achievements over the last 100 years, we stand ready to support the next generation when they need us.
After the British Legion was formed, members organised themselves into local branches and this system is still in place today.
Today our membership stands at 180,000 spread over branches in the UK and a further 78 worldwide with branches in places as far away as the Falkland Islands and Hong Kong.
The Remembrance Service will be held on the 13th November at St. Nicholas Church Newport and our Parade, which will form up on Audley Avenue outside the cricket club at 10.15 to march off at 10.20am. Service at the War Graves at Newport Cemetery will be on Friday 11th November at 11am.
The National Poppy Appeal is launched on Thursday 27th October 2022.
The Poppy Appeal in Newport will commence on Monday 31st October until the 12th November 2022.
