Last Friday, the Christmas spirit was all around us as I had the pleasure of accompanying our three independent judges through the Newport High Street for the annual Christmas Window Competition.
The weather was kind, and more importantly, the level of participation and the sheer creativity from our local businesses continue to increase year after year.
This competition is a heartfelt celebration of the independent spirit that defines Newport. As Chamber Chair, my thanks go to our distinguished judges for giving up their time to assess the tremendous effort on display.
Our judges were genuinely impressed. Bestselling author Dave Williams is a 2 x Bestselling author, speaker and award winning leadership strategist.
Dave says “My mission, is to empower people to break through limitations and unlock their true potential.”

There has been much passion and in many cases imagination put into the displays, many really were displays that ‘stopped you in your tracks’

Sam Haydon Fund Raising Manager at Stay Telford Homeless Charity. The Charity provides outreach support for people rough sleeping, they have 78 beds spaces providing accommodation and incredible support services to those in need in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin.
Sam commented how wonderful Newport High Street was and loved learning more about the town. Very diverse and eclectic collection of shops and businesses, and it was great to meet the fellow judges.
Kim Gilmour of Connect Marketing observed that Newport is a "thriving High Street" where businesses had fully embraced the magic of the season.
To all the businesses who took part: congratulations. You have not only dressed your windows but, collectively, have wrapped the entire town in festive cheer, enhancing the crucial atmosphere that encourages residents and visitors alike to support local.
The judges’ difficult decisions are now complete. We look forward to announcing our lucky winners, week commencing Monday, December 15th.
