Newport Dentist Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

Author | 10 April 2013

A Shropshire dentist who offers family, general and cosmetic dentistry is celebrating its one-year anniversary after increasing staff numbers and treating a rapidly growing number of clients.

Since Dr Ashok Jakhu opened Wycherley’s Dental Practice on Newport’s High Street he has seen business flourish.

Staff numbers have increased to include four nurses and a hygienist and patient numbers have reached their highest.

“Our first year has been a tremendous success and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the people of Shropshire,” Dr Jakhu said.

“We’ve come up with some special offers for our loyal customers to help them share in our birthday celebrations.

“People often think private dentistry is too expensive but we’re getting the message out there that it’s affordable and, with these offers, it’s even easier to get your perfect smile.”

Available until May 13, there are deals on teeth whitening, Invisalign clear braces and facial aesthetic treatment such as botox and dermal fillers.

“On May 13, we will be holding an open day for Invisalign.

“It will give people a chance to come along and meet the team, have a free Invisalign consultation and take advantage of a £400 discount and free teeth whitening if booked on the day.

“We are also offering free consultations with our treatment co-ordinator for anyone who hasn’t been into the practice and is interested in joining us,” Dr Jakhu said.

In the past year, the practice has received a host of accolades for excellence as well as a £250,000 revamp.

But Dr Jakhu puts his success down to the practice’s friendly attitude and the way patients are quickly put at ease.

“Children even come running in with their parents eager to get in the chair. For some, they have never been to a dentist before.

“Maybe before they thought it would be scary but they come here and see it’s a relaxed atmosphere. We avoided making the practice look clinical and the children like the different colours in each room.”

Dr Jakhu has a special interest in helping people overcome their dental phobias.

“We are able to give the time and attention a patient needs. Dental phobia is a huge problem and can lead to people not visiting a dentist for years and then they have much worse problems than they would have done in the first place.

“But we offer sedation facilities so the patient is relaxed on the verge of sleep but can still communicate with me and have some awareness of what is happening.

“It takes away the anxiety and pain of the situation and means they can have the important care they need.”

Dr Jakhu has also undertaken the training of new staff.

Sandy Millard recently joined the practice as a trainee dental nurse and Emma Salmon has joined as a fully qualified dental nurse.

“We are looking forward to seeing their careers progress with us - both Sandy and Emma have already become great assets to the team,” he said.

“Our team is expanding and it means we can offer an even better service to patients.

“Our opening times are very flexible as we offer late evenings and weekends so people don’t need to use their holidays for trips to the dentist.”

Dr Jakhu said he could not believe how quickly the last year has flown by.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in our first year and we look forward to working with you for many years to come,” he said.
