Waitrose Newport encourage children to Grow and Sell

Author | 10 May 2013

Today four local Schools came to Waitrose Newport to collect their 'grow and sell' kits. This part of our ongoing community investment program Waitrose is keen to continue to build relationships with local Schools. The kits have been created in association with the Waitrose farm on the Leckford estate in Hampshire.

The schools were; Moorfield Primary, Newport Infants School, Newport Junior School, St Peters and Paul's Catholic school.

The aim of the 'grow and sell' kit is to encourage children to grow their own produce and then sell it to our customers to raise funds for their Schools. The produce grown could also be sold at School fate's or used in the School dining room.

In Autumn Waitrose will be using its community matters scheme to support other schools in the local area with additional resources to increase childrens understanding and learning of food origins.

The collection by the school children was timed with the launch of our new outdoor garden pod, which aims to provide our customers will a range of plants and accessories.
