More than Just a Cricket Club

Author | 16 March 2015

Newport Cricket Club is situated on the old Newport Racecourse in Audley Avenue, there has been cricket played at the ground for over 100 years. The Club has over 150 senior and junior members and strive all the time to attract new players and member’s. The club is completely self sufficient and has to raise all of its own finances.

To support this the pavilion is hired out to numerous weekday community groups such as Slimming World, Newport Embroiderers, Flower Arranging groups as well as being a hub for Telford College (TCAT). On the field of play Newport’s senior side will be looking to repeat their exploits of 2013 when the won all 3 of their respective divisions of the Shropshire league including the prestigious Premier League. After an indifferent year at regional level last season the club is very much focused again to bounce back at all levels.

Newport Cricket Club run 3 Senior Teams in the Shropshire County League, 1st XI and 2nd XI Teams playing on Saturday and 3rd XI playing on a Sunday. Mid-week 20/20 games are also played during the season. We offer a program of junior coaching for boys and girls on Friday nights during the season and run a number of Junior teams in the local league.

Pre-season Indoor nets are held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre and fitness sessions are also arranged to help get in shape for the new season (Details circulated to all those who wish to attend at any level). Outdoor net sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday evening throughout the season.

Newport Cricket is at the heart of the local community and we welcome new playing or social members, it would be great to see you. Those interested in playing please call: 07764 471852 or email: newportcricketshropshire@yahoo.com
