Volunteer Open Day at Weston Park, Near Newport

Volunteer Open Day at Weston Park

Author | 06 February 2017

Weston Park, the stately home on the Shropshire \ Staffordshire border is holding a Volunteers Open Day this February in the historic House.

Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer on the estate are invited to explore the House, get a feel for the park, and speak to existing volunteers and staff about the opportunities available to those who want to get involved.

The event coincides with the Hamilton Kerr Institute’s annual visit to the House, to work on the conservation of the vast amount of valuable paintings in the collection. This is a significant year for the group, as they will be working on the last paintings in the collection before starting over in 2018. This year they will be bringing vast paintings of the family down from the Family Staircase. This is a great chance for prospective volunteers to experience the exciting conservation projects that take place at Weston Park, which they too can be involved with.

Gareth Williams, Head of Curatorial and Learning for the Weston Park Foundation has said that “commitment, interest and passion are the only qualification needed, and in return volunteers receive training to develop their skills and interests as well as a generous package of benefits.”

Pat Scarrott, a current volunteer at Weston Park speaks of her own experience, “I really enjoy volunteering with the Education team. I’ve made some great new friends and at our Annual Dinner we have the privilege of eating in the Dining Room of the House which is fantastic.”

The Volunteer Open Day will take place on Tuesday 14th February from 10am – 11am.
