LEJOG (which stands for Lands End to John O’Groats), is 874 miles from start to finish, which you can walk, run or a mixture of both. This is a virtual challenge, where you run your miles wherever you like, in stages, and progress along a “virtual” route, run by “End to End Virtual Challenges”, a british company. When you complete it you get a Medal and a t-shirt.
I decided from the beginning that I would only count my running. From the 1st of June to the 25th October I've run on 130 different days, and I finished in 127th place out of 500 people. I’ve run around the local area and also when I’ve been away to Worthing and Scotland. I’ve done this while still working at a local residential home as a carer.
I signed up for LEJOG2 in June as I was looking for a challenge I had from the 1st June till 30th November, and by the end of June I was hooked. They send you virtual postcards from different points along the way and the interactive map which shows you exactly where you “are”. To help keep me motivated, I decided to run 10k a day for the month of July over 200 miles in a month, my highest mileage ever. With school holidays my daughter joined me on her bike so I had company.
In September I decided I would run every day again but as I was trying to up my distance ready for the virtual London marathon I wouldn't set a distance, I would just run. Then after a quick look at the map I realised I could maybe make a final push and finish it before the clocks went back, and the evenings became dark, making running after work a bit more tricky. In my last week of running to complete LEJOG I ran a massive 56 miles in a week and I finished it off doing the virtual Ironbridge half marathon.
