Young people aged 15 to 25 have just over one week left to apply for up to £500 as part of this year’s Young Person Grant.
The Leader and Cabinet Members’ Young Person Grant can be used to support young people in their education, employment, or training.
To be eligible for the grant, the young person must live in Telford & Wrekin - or be a child in care or care leaver living outside of the Borough.
They must be aged between 15 years (and in Year 11) and 25 years at the close of applications.
To apply, young people should say how the funding would help them access education, employment, or training or how they could use the money to start their own business.
Young people will have until 5pm on Friday May 16 to get their applications in. A panel of judges will then assess each application. Each successful applicant will be notified by 11 June 2025.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:
“We’ve had dozens of applications come in so far for this year’s Young Person Grant, but I don’t want anyone who might be eligible to miss out on the opportunity. We really are invested in the future of our young people.
“The grants can be used for all sorts of reasons to support a young person’s career aspirations, whether it’s through education, training, employment or starting a new business.
“It could for be the purchase of a new laptop, supporting with travel costs to get to and from education or training or funding the tools needed to get a new business up and running.
“There’s so much potential, and I’d urge any young person that fits the criteria to apply before the deadline closes.”
The Telford & Wrekin Council scheme supports wider Council plans to develop its local youth offer, which provides activities and provision for young people, whether it’s related to health and wellbeing, education or arts and culture.
