This award was presented to Eva Allan by Lyn Fowler Mayor of Newport at the recent Annual town meeting held at the Parish Rooms, Newport on 6th April.
Lyn commented ‘This person doesn’t need much introduction to those who have lived for any length of time, in Newport
Well known within the Town and served as a Town Councillor and a Telford & Wrekin Borough Cllr.
Held the Office of Mayor in 1988 and again in 2000 for a period of three years - was renowned for getting around town on her trusted white bicycle and even transported the chain if necessary, in her pocket.
She Worked at Longford Playgroup for 20 years And spent 30 Years as governor at Newport Infants school – During which time she designed and produced a child friendly illustrated book on the work of the Town Council – using knitted mice to explain the C.I.V.I C role of Newport Town Council.
She was one of the founder members of the Heart of England in Bloom and under her “watch” won one of the first Green Apple awards for the Newport Cemetery Chapel, this award was presented by Sir David Bellamy
She has served on Various local Charities including:
Boughey Trust for 40 years
The Lady Annabelle Boughey Housing Trust
The Alms Houses & Newport Cottage Care.
I am sure I have missed out much of what she has done but I think the most we can say is that she has devoted her life to volunteering in Newport and has helped the town become the great place it is today’.
