Sporty students from a Newport secondary school have been on their very own international tour. More than 50 students from Burton Borough School took part in the six-day trip to Barcelona in Spain.
Trip leader Megan Robson from the school’s PE department said the students took part in two professional training sessions with Activ4 coaches in either football or netball.
“The football teams played two matches each, with the Year 8 boys winning both matches, and the Year 9 boys recorded a win and a draw. The girls’ team finished with one win and a loss.
“The netball teams competed in a local schools’ tournament finishing third and fourth overall – a very impressive performance by all involved.
“The students represented our school so well – their behaviour, effort and attitude were brilliant throughout.
“Despite a 25-hour coach journey, their spirits remained high and their excitement was evident from start to finish. It was a fantastic trip and I’d like to say a massive thank you to the staff who accompanied the trip for all their support in making it happen.”
Burton Borough School principal Caroline Bedford said: “Opportunities like this are what make school truly memorable.
“This trip not only gave our students a chance to develop their sporting skills, but also to grow in confidence, independence and teamwork. I’m incredibly proud of how they represented the school and deeply grateful to the staff who made it all possible.”
Staff who accompanied the students were: Megan Robson, Josh Darlington, Sophie Coffey, Lia Lyttle, Logan Titley, Ben Morgan, and Sarah Dungey.
As well as the sporting fixtures, the students enjoyed a variety of activities including a full day at a waterpark, an evening of bowling and arcade games, time relaxing in the hotel pool, and some shopping.
