On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club’s Phil Hardy lined up alongside 523 others to take on the Ellesmere 10k. Starting and finishing at The Lakelands school, the race takes in a large clockwise lap of Ellesmere and the surrounding countryside, with a mix of road and well-packed flat trail making up the route.
The course is a quick one, with just 34 metres of elevation change, and notable features include a humped canal bridge and passing next to The Mere. The weather was warm and sunny, providing a challenge for the runners.
Phil was the sole participant from NDRC to take part, and completed the course in 55 minutes, 34 seconds, which secured him 193rd position overall. All runners received a medal and commemorative t-shirt as a reward for completing the race.
